Flagstaff AZ's water filters, water softeners and iron filters

The city of Flagstaff is supplied by surface water from Upper Lake Mary and the Inner Basin of the San Francisco Peaks. They also pump groundwater from the Woody Mountain Wellfield, Lake Mary Wellfield, and other "in city" wells which tap the Coconino and Supai Aquifers. These sources blend in the water distribution system and the amount of water coming from each source may vary during the year.

The average hardness levels for Flagstaff's water are as follows:

Woody Mtn area: 6.8 GPG.

Interbasin area: 0.8 GPG.

Lake Mary area: 1.4 GPG.

Lake area wells: 18.7 GPG.

City area wells: 8.8-9.4 GPG.

Common Minerals

Calcium and magnesium create one of the most notable changes in your water. As a result, these tasteless minerals dissolve in the water and create hard water. Specifically, hard water poses no health risk. Although, it can create numerous challenges for the consumer. Also, the higher the hardness the more effort it takes for soap to perform its cleansing action. Additionally, hard water leaves soap deposits in sinks, dishes and glassware. Finally, it can create scaly calcium deposits on faucets, shower heads and coolers. An ion exchange water softener removes calcium and magnesium ions by replacing them with sodium or potassium. Finally, if you are on a sodium-restricted diet, you may need the addition of a Reverse Osmosis unit starting at just $239. Reverse Osmosis
