Rhode Island has approximately 1,498 miles of rivers, 20,917 acres of lakes and ponds, and approximately 15,500 acres of freshwater marshes, bogs, swamps and fens as well as close to 72,000 acres of forested wetlands. Estuaries, including Narragansett Bay and the coastal ponds, cover 156 square miles. Underlying the state are 22 major stratified drift (sand and gravel) aquifers as well as usable quantities of groundwater in almost all other locations from the bedrock aquifers.
Providence's water comes from surface water reservoirs in Scituate. The main source of this water supply is the Scituate Reservoir, which is the terminal reservoir in a network of six interconnected reservoirs, including the Scituate, Regulating, Barden, Ponaganset, Westconnaug and Moswansicut Reservoirs. Common Minerals
Calcium and magnesium create one of the most notable changes in your water. As a result, these tasteless minerals dissolve in the water and create hard water. Specifically, hard water poses no health risk. Although, it can create numerous challenges for the consumer. The higher the hardness the more effort it takes for soap to perform its cleansing action. Hard water leaves soap deposits in sinks, dishes and glassware. Also, it can create scaly calcium deposits on faucets, shower heads and coolers. An ion exchange water softener removes calcium and magnesium ions by replacing them with sodium or potassium. Water Softener
City Water
Our most popular City Water Softener/Conditioner: Premium Dual Purpose Water Softener Conditioner replaces Culligan®, Sears®, Kinetico®, Ionics®, RainSoft®, EcoWater®, Hague® and virtually all others. Firstly, you can change the media in it if your water changes. Secondly it takes care of taste, smells, odors, dry skin, stiff or coarse clothing, chemicals and soap scum. Thirdly it gives you luxurious suds. Finally, it raises your quality of life (at a fraction of the cost). Basically, one unit does it all without mixing media which is not recommended.
Finally, if you are on a sodium-restricted diet, you may need the addition of a Reverse Osmosis unit starting at just $239. Reverse Osmosis Systems
