Lake Springfield's primary purpose is to serve as the source of drinking water for the city of Springfield and several nearby communities. In addition, it is a major central Illinois recreation center. Additionally it serves as the source of condenser cooling water for the utility's Lakeshore power plant. Lake Springfield is a reservoir built by impounding water upstream of Spaulding Dam on Sugar Creek. In general, the raw water quality of the lake is typical of many mid-western reservoirs.
Rain falling directly on Lake Springfield is one source of water supplying the lake. However, the predominant supply is runoff from the 265-square-mile watershed that lies primarily southwest of the lake. The watershed is the system of drainage ways, notably Lick and Sugar Creeks and their tributaries. Runoff water and groundwater are collected from as far west as Waverly and south as Virden. Land used in the watershed is approximately 88 percent agriculturally oriented with the row cropping of corn and soybeans predominating. Given the agricultural nature of the watershed, the lake is very much influenced by the soils, land uses, and human activity within the watershed. These influences, seasonal changes, and the dynamic nature of the lake ecosystems all contribute to the quality of water in the lake.
City Water Filters
Our most popular City Water Softener/Conditioner: Premium Dual Purpose Water Softener Conditioner replaces Culligan®, Sears®, Kinetico®, Ionics®, RainSoft®, EcoWater®, Hague® and virtually all others. Firstly, you can change the media in it if your water changes. Secondly it takes care of taste, smells, odors, dry skin, stiff or coarse clothing, chemicals and soap scum. Thirdly it gives you luxurious suds. Finally, it raises your quality of life (at a fraction of the cost). Basically, one unit does it all without mixing media which is not recommended.
Common Minerals
Calcium and magnesium create one of the most notable changes in your water. As a result, these tasteless minerals dissolve in the water and create hard water. Specifically, hard water poses no health risk. Although, it can create numerous challenges for the consumer. The higher the hardness the more effort it takes for soap to perform its cleansing action. Hard water leaves soap deposits in sinks, dishes and glassware. Also, it can create scaly calcium deposits on faucets, shower heads and coolers. An ion exchange water softener removes calcium and magnesium ions by replacing them with sodium or potassium. Water Softener
