Local home water filters information
Enterprise AL's water comes from groundwater in the northern portion of the West Salt River Valley Sub-basin (WSRV), bordering the Phoenix Mountains. It can often have hardness, iron, sulfur and manganese when it has not been treated. These require home water filters for private wells. Once the city or municipal water supply has treated it, you can expect other issues such as hardness, chlorine, chemicals etc. This would require completely different types of home water filters.
If you are on a private well you may see any or all of these. Each well is unique. It is almost always easy and inexpensive to correct most private wells in the area, regardless of what expensive in-home sales companies might tell you. Remember that we can offer free testing and free expert advice. WE do not work on commission. We will never ask you to buy anything or pressure you in any way. Just give us a quick call at 800-684-0979. A friendly water tech will help you figure out exactly what you need. Even if you never buy a thing.
The Water Department draws its water supply from underground aquifers - Nanafalia, Salt Mountain Limestone and Clayton. After the water is pumped to the surface, the water is injected with chlorine and fluoride before being distributed into the system. Water samples are collected regularly throughout the system before and after treatment to ensure high water quality. A Consumer Confidential Report is mailed to all water customers on an annual basis, usually around the month of May.
Minerals
Calcium and manganese together makes hardness. These tasteless minerals dissolve in the water and create what is known as hard water. Although hard water poses no health risk, it can create problems around the homer. For example, the higher the hardness, the more effort it takes for soap to perform its job. In addition to killing suds, hard water can leave soap deposits in sinks. It can leave spots on dishes and glassware. Hard water can also create scaly calcium deposits on faucets, shower heads and coolers. As well as the inside of pipes, hot water heaters and automatic dishwashers. An ion exchange water softener removes hardness (calcium and magnesium ions) by replacing them with sodium or in some instances potassium.
